Convertri Updates – 12/11/19

First published in 1987, the Where’s Wally? book series has been delighting and frustrating children and adults alike with the crowd-navigating escapades of a red and white striped sweater-wearing nomad.

Wally is a Brit, and his name is also slang for “one who is perhaps a bit dim”. His global success meant the nuance of the name of this glasses-wearing, blank-faced guy was lost, and so you might better know him as Waldo in the USA – or as Willie (Afrikaans), Willy (Norwegian), Charlie (French), Valli (Icelandic), Ubaldo (Italian), Holger (Danish), Walter (German), Wai lei (Cantonese), or Jura (Croatian).

Despite these regional changes he’s harder than ever to find, as the size of a typical Wally has shrunk from on average 0.99 square centimetres (0.153 square inches) in the original 1987 edition to between 0.20 and 0.17 cm2 (0.031 and 0.026 sq in) in the latest editions.

Reading a Where’s Wally? is meant to be a fun experience. Losing elements on your page, however, is not – and when that happens in real life, you can’t even blame Odlaw.

That’s why this week, our very own Wizard Whitebeard (me) has created a helpful guide you can use to locate your lost elements, and I also bring news of all the bug fixes and features you can expect this week.

And, because I couldn’t shoehorn this in anywhere else, did you know there was a stalled Where’s Wally? MGM movie production headed by Seth Rogen (seriously)?

FEATURES

Actions and Events – previously, events affecting videos were categorised under the heading User, as the user would have to interact with them to make them happen. However, since videos were the only thing they would be interacting with, this was kind of redundant. So we’ve renamed this option Video.

Page templates [PRO AND AGENCY] –

Appease (sales page)
Appease (upsell)
Appease (checkout)

BUGS

Page Importer – before, this feature had a headache when trying to import HTML line breaks. We’ve shown it what to do, and now it feels more confident breaking up your lines.

Video encoding – when you uploaded videos with non-ASCII characters in the filename, this was causing problems with encoding. We’ve fixed it.

Videos – Safari didn’t like it when you added rounded corners in the Borders menu, and fullscreen was having problems in Preview mode. We’ve knocked all your corners back into shape and reminded Preview how to go fullscreen.

Sticky videos – if you created an event on pause, this wouldn’t affect sticky videos. This has now been un-stuck.

Images – your pictures may have been going blurry on mobile. We’ve adjusted the focus and fixed it.

Page cards – these might not have been showing all background images. Now, they do.

Happy converting!
