Convertri Updates – 26/09/17
Not that we’re playing God or anything, but building a UI is a lot like building an intricate living universe…
It throws up a lot of big questions to ponder.
This week, our dev team has been stroking their beards over existential dilemmas such as:
Shadows. Are they rendered if they don’t exist?
If you delete an image, does it interfere with the page importer continuum?
And:
If an error message is updated with no one making errors to see it, does it make a sound?
(Find out the answers to these age-old riddles in just a moment…)
Shedding light on these zen problems involved bench-pressing some gnarly heavy books, including Philosophy of Form API’s and the Complete Argumentative String Theory (2nd edition).
But, we think we pretty much cracked it, and the meaning of life to boot.
(It’s cats.)
So check out this week’s metaphysical revelations, and don’t forget, if you’re using Convertri concurrently on another plane of existence, you need to force-refresh (CTRL + SHIFT + R, or CMD + SHIFT + R if you’re on a Mac) your browser to see what’s new:
FEATURES
Page importer [AGENCY] – the page importer now tells you any problems it’s having, so you know if everything’s going to plan or if it’s stuck on an element.
Forms – if you use the Query String Arguments feature, you can now find it with a new look inside the Configure Form dialog. Connect query string arguments with your form fields much faster!
UI – error messages on publish, preview and save have been updated to the new style (but hopefully you’ll never see them anyway, right?). We’ve also spruced up a few other notifications.
UI – we’ve streamlined parts of the editor code, not just for small but perfectly formed performance improvements on large pages, but also to make it easier for us to add more stuff later. More updates, more features, less time.
Page templates [PRO] –
Dark – moody and minimalist, this atmospheric theme will get you noticed.
Rebill – an excellent theme for a recurring health product.
Wordsmith – typography features front and centre here.
BUGS
Border – elements with non-zero border radius had ‘dirty’ corners, because the default shadow colour (black) was showing… whether a shadow existed or not. We now changed this so shadows aren’t rendered if they don’t exist. You’d think this wouldn’t be necessary, but yay tech!
Forms – there was an error which meant submissions were not being sent to Aweber if any custom fields used were not completed. This has been fixed.
Editor – ever added an element to your page only for it to unexpectedly show up where you didn’t want to put it? This was due to an error in how we calculated element coordinates, and we’ve now turned the map upside-down so elements know the way.
Page importer [AGENCY] – elements with multiple image backgrounds were breaking the importer. Now, this shouldn’t happen.
Page importer [AGENCY] – image background repeat styling was breaking the importer. Now it won’t.
Page importer [AGENCY] – not finding an image (e.g. if the file address returned a 404 or 500) caused the importer to break. Now, images like this will just be ignored, and the rest of the import will continue.
Page importer [AGENCY] – also other miscellaneous small fixes to make it work with more pages.
