Convertri Updates – 20/02/18

As a person who occasionally likes to wear female clothes, pockets are a big issue for me.

It’s special to find a garment with pockets, and not just stitched outlines on the front of jeans which do nothing except snag your fingernails when you forget and try to slide in your phone.

(I own small portable items, Clothes Makers of the World. WITNESS ME.)

But pockets haven’t even updated for current technology – never mind the everyday habits of an entire gender. Try and fit a Samsung Edge into the front pocket of an H&M trumpet-sleeve blouse – you’ll see what I mean.

Luckily, our dev team do a better job of updating to different screen sizes than fashion designers.

Because this week’s behind-the-scenes work is laying the groundwork for a big update to the mobile editor.

When we originally launched, 320px was the virtual mobile screen width du jour. So, we made our mobile pages 320px wide to guarantee your content would always be on-screen.

Nowadays, mobile screens are generally wider, and they come in all shapes and sizes, and that means you can get some guttering on mobile pages, especially on larger devices.

So, we’re developing a way of publishing mobile pages which will display them at your user’s screen width – with minimal extra whitespace and guttering, filling the page with as much gorgeous content as you like.

This means there’ll be a few operational changes:

The mobile designer will be made larger – probably 480px, though we haven’t completely decided yet.

Then, rather than always displaying at 480px wide, your design will be automatically scaled to the size of the phone screen.  And because it’s scaled rather than reflowed, you won’t need to worry about display differences between devices.  What you see in the editor will always be how it displays, just like now.

This is going to make your pages look better on a far wider range of devices, and we think that can only be a good thing.

We don’t have a fixed release date for this yet, but we’re hoping it’ll be in the next few weeks.  Stay tuned to these e-mails and we’ll keep you updated!

But what about right now? Force-refresh (CTRL + SHIFT + R, or CMD + SHIFT + R if you’re on a Mac) your browser to experience Convertri at its latest and greatest:

FEATURES

API’s – good news, everybody! Every API is now available on all plans, so Standard and Charter users will now have access to integrations which before now were Pro-only.

Shopping Cart (failed payments) – we’ve adjusted the retry schedule for failed payments: our Convertri repo men will now knock again after 5 minutes, then once a day for the next three days, then once a week ongoing. This should put an end to lost payments due to your customer’s lack of funds without spamming your payment provider with repeated requests.

Shopping Cart (general tidying up) – we’ve also improved the serialisation of order entities. This might have absolutely no effect on you, but it will help us diagnose and fix any future problems with recurring payments much faster.

New templates [PRO]

Aflame (Delivery page) – a complementary download page in the fiery Aflame series.

Performance (Sales page) – a driven, motivated and professional-looking sales page.

Manful (Sales page) – rugged, loyal and hardworking. What more could you want in a sales page?

BUGS

Payments – it turned out we were only supporting some of the cards issued by Diners Club United States and Canada, so people using cards that weren’t supported received ‘invalid card’ errors despite entering the number correctly. We now support every one of them, so even more people can buy your stuff.

Have an awesome week!

Beth
